Just imagine the memories your kids will have that will last a lifetime! My grandpa passed away before I was born, but we grew up on the same farm as my grandma. She is now gone, but each time I go home to MN, the memories flow back into my mind. I love taking walks around her part of the farm and enjoy spending time sitting in her house, reading a good book. You are giving your kids such an incredible gift.
Thank you for sharing that. It was really hard to leave my parents and our "city" life behind....but I know it was the right thing and a gift to our children that they will never forget.
You know what's funny? The first thing I thought of when I saw this post is the fact that someone will probably bash you about your kids in the back of the truck. I was right...first comment. Seriously...why do people read if they are so "bothered" by you! I don't get it. You hang in there girl. Seriously, people. To each their own!!!
My fondest memories of my grandfather, were riding in the bed of his pickup truck all over the ranch with lots of cousins. And no one ever got hurt either ;o) To this day, every time I see my cousins we talk about our adventures in the back of the pickup.
Hmmmm, I didn't see it as "bashing" at all. To be honest, it's against the law no matter what speed Grandpa is driving. Really. I think it's even MORE reckless to endorse riding in a moving vehicle without seatbelts and / or carseats. I saw Saturn_Girl's comment as kind and helpful.
Hey! My wife has you linked to her blog and as such I've been reading your posts and have fallen in love with your family and way of life. I love the life you are giving your children and I remember as a young boy growing up driving around on the farms with my father and uncles and not wearing seatbelts and hanging out in the bed of the pick up truck or on the tractors....Don't change anything you are doing. Let them be boys and let them continue to climb the grain sheds and trees. Sure they may one day fall and get hurt..who knows, they may even break a bone. It's all apart of the adventure called life. You're giving your kids everything they need or could want in life. I applaud you!
This brings be back to my childhood-- growing up one a farm. Life on a farm and life in town is so different. Typically, all kids on a farm start driving and moving trucks from one spot to another super early- I remember driving the truck out to the barn at the age of 8. Always going the pace of a lawn mower. Kids ride in the back of trucks, on fuel/water tanks, on the tailgates, in the buckets of a backhoe....it is just what you do on a farm. All the while the speed is never faster than a lawn mower. It is part of the farm culture as certain things are part of the city culture that farmers don't understand. I love the adventure of farm life!

Well...they did get off the rack before they drove...but didn't buckle as they were only filling up the tanks in the yard
