sprouting {love}


I think it's finally time I share with you my {love} for sprouting.

First I'm going to tell you why you should sprout
...then I'm going to tell you how {grin}

As that little sprout grows it releasing proteins, vitamins & enzymes that otherwise would have been unused. And while it's boosting up it's nutrients it's reducing the phytic acids and toxins
...making it much easier for your body to use and digest. Amazing isn't it!

Are you thinking this is going to be hard
or takes too much time.
You're wrong!

It's just as easy as a few simple steps...


{first} rinse your beans until they run clear
{second} place the beans in a container and cover with water
...soak overnight


{third} the next morning drain and rinse your beans
{forth} place them in quart jars 1/2-2/3 full and cover with sprouting lid
...if you don't have a lid you can use cheesecloth or nylons


{fifth} fill your jar with water, swish & drain.
Do this 2-3 times a day until you have
...sprouts!


{sixth} once your beans are sprouted, let them dry for a few hours
...and then place them in a sealed container in the fridge


...we sprout chickpeas
lentils
spelt
wheat
alfalfa
quinoa
& soon broccoli

Are you ready to give it a try?
here it is again...


{soak} your beans overnight
{rinse} them every 8-12 hours... don't let them get dry
{drain} your beans... don't let them sit in water
{harvest} your sprouts when they have little white tales
{store} them in a sealed container in the fridge

{tips}

want to start small... soak them in a quart jar
...just fill the jar 1/3 with beans and fill with water to the top. Then move onto step 3.

not all legumes and grains sprout equally
...some take 1 day while others take 5.
Just watch for that little white tail and you'll know they are done {grin}

how sprouted you want them is up to you
...there is no one perfect size of sprout

after rinsing them, place your jar on it's side at a slight angle to drain for a minute
...sitting water can cause fungus

don't let them get too dry
...every climate is different some need water every 2 hours, others every 12

not going to use them right away
...they should last up to 2 weeks in the fridge

Haven't eaten any sprouts except alfalfa and bean sprouts (in salads and such).  How do you use the others?

yea im curious how you use the sprouted thingies :) im not a chick pea fan but i hear u can put them in almost anything if u puree it 1st.

Sprouts have many valuable attributes in relation to human health. Such as,  Spouts give us oxygen, Sprouts increase our Protein Count, Sprouts increase our levels of vitamin B & C etc...

 I'm going to answer here and then probably mention it in a post too since most of you wondered how to use the sprouts.

You can use them just as you would regular beans. We sprout chickpeas for chickpea curry, hummus and just to snack on. They are SOOOO good warm sprinkled with real salt. yum!

Lentils can be used raw or cooked... raw gives a nutty flavor vs. cooked given them less of a nutty flavor and less texture than regular cooked lentils. I love sprouted lentil soup!

The wheat, spelt and quinoa we sprout, dehydrate and then grind for fresh flour. You could cook them once they were sprouted for a rice/grain type dish.

really it's a substitution for regular beans/grains... just healthier!

This might be a dumb question but we live in Japan. I haven't been able to find fresh beans, etc. We can find pinto, kidney, etc.-type beans in bags. But not chickpeas, lentils, etc. Would this work with canned chickpeas? Or no?
